 Dr. Mark P. Howell


Dr. Howell graduated from Memorial High School in Houston, Texas in 1973 and attended Soutwestern University in Georgetown, Texas and graduated in 1977.  He was an Engineer for Dresser Industries International from 1977 to 1979.  Dr. Howell then attended and graduated from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio dental school in 1983.  He has been practicing in Garden Ridge since 1985.  He is very involved in the community and belongs to several  local community and professional organizations. He served as an associate clinical professor for the University of Texas Health Science Center Dental School from 1989 to 1999. His professional affiliations include: San Antonio District Dental Society, Texas Dental Associaiton, American Dental Association, Acadamy of General Dentistry, American Academy of Functional Orthodontists, and the International Academy of Orthodontists.

In addition to private practice, Dr. Maria Howell maintains a Clinical Professor academic appointment in the Department of Restorative Dentistry at the University of Texas Health Science Center Dental School in San Antonio. She held an academic appointment that was awarded tenure since 1985. During these years, she served as director for both clinical and non-clinical courses.

Dr. Howell completed a B.A. degree in biology in addition to a minor degree in Chemistry from St. Mary's University in 1979.   In 1983 she completed a doctorate of dental surgery degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center Dental School in San Antonio.  Dr Howell was awarded a certificate for completing an Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency in 1995.

Dr. Howell is one of eight national consumer advisors for the American Dental Association. She has held this appointment since 1991. She regularly meets with local, national, and international media outlets regarding dental consumer issues. Since 1998, she has served as the national host of the American Dental Assoication's Dental Minute, an informative 60 second television and radio program covering many dental topics.  The shows were a finalist for a 2006 Freddie Award in the area of national and international health care media.

She is a member of the American Dental Association, the Hispanic Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry, the Academy of OperativeDentistry, the American College of Dentists, and the International College of Dentists.  Dr. Howell has served as President of the Academy of Operative Dentistry and as Program Committee co-chair for the 2008 ADA Annual Session.

The San Antonio Dental Society and the local chapter of Academy of General Dentistry nominated Dr. Howell for Texas Dentist of the Year in 2003.  Since 1998, Dr. Howell has lectured nationally to dental assistants in the area of dental materials.


Dr. Jonathon Callia D.D.S.N.S.                  

Dr. Callia is a specialist in periodontal surgery and implant surgery.  He maintains satellite offices in both San Antonio and Austin.  He attended Baylor University in 2000, and graduated with a certificate in Periodontics and a Masters in Biology in 2003.  He is a current member of The Academy of Periodontology and of The Academy of Osseointergration.  Dr. Callia's goal is to provide quality dental care by using the latest equipment and techniques.  He continues to expand his knowledge by attending seminars and workshops regularly.
