Removable Partial and Complete Dentures - Garden Ridge Center For Dentistry

Removable Partial and Complete Dentures

Dentures are a technique to replace teeth that have been lost due to tooth decay, gum disease, injury, or other health related concerns.  No one wants to lose their natural teeth, but partial or full dentures make it possible to chew, speak and smile with confidence again. All removable partial and complete dentures are custom made for each patient, and involve a series of appointments to design and fit the replacement teeth.

The Difference

Removable partial dentures may replace a few, or many teeth. They can be made with a metal framework, or base, or an acrylic base. Removable partial dentures use the remaining natural teeth as anchors, and small wires or clasps are designed to rest on or around teeth for stability.

Complete dentures replace all of the upper and/or lower teeth. They are made with an acrylic base. Upper dentures cover the palate, or roof of the mouth, to create a seal or suction to stay in place. Lower dentures rest on the lower ridge, and are often supported by two or more dental implants for retention and stability.

Permanent Dentures - Garden Ridge Center For Dentistry

Permanent Dentures

Implant supported dentures come in several designs. For patients that would like a permanent option, four to six implants may be placed and a permanent set of teeth may be attached. This is often referred to as an “All on 4” or “All on 6”. This is a great option to regain chewing function with the strength of natural teeth. Patient’s also gain great confidence and are able to have a cosmetic transformation with this procedure.

Frequently Asked Questions about Dentures

Getting dentures is a multi-step process designed to give you the most comfortable, natural fit. First, your Garden Ridge dentist will evaluate your oral health and take impressions of your gums and any remaining teeth. These impressions are used to create custom dentures tailored to your mouth. You’ll have a fitting appointment to make adjustments for comfort and bite alignment.

Once your dentures are complete, you’ll be provided instructions for care, cleaning, and how to get used to speaking and eating with them. Follow-up visits may be scheduled to ensure the best fit and comfort.

With proper care, removable partial dentures can last anywhere from 5 to 10 years. Over time, your gums and jawbone can change, which may require adjustments or replacements to keep your dentures fitting comfortably. Regular checkups with your Garden Ridge dentist help ensure your partials stay in great shape for as long as possible.

To keep your dentures fresh and long-lasting, clean them daily. Rinse them after meals to remove food particles, then brush gently with a soft denture brush and non-abrasive cleanser. Never use regular toothpaste because it can scratch dentures easily. Soak them overnight in a denture solution to maintain shape and freshness. Always rinse thoroughly before putting them back in.

Not wearing your dentures can lead to several issues. Your facial muscles and jaw may shift, which can change your facial appearance and make it harder to speak clearly or chew properly. Missing teeth can also put extra pressure on remaining teeth and gums, potentially causing discomfort or further oral health problems. For the best function and appearance, it’s important to wear your dentures as recommended by your dentist.
