Treatment Approaches - Garden Ridge Center For Dentistry

Treatment Approaches

While there is not a “one-size-fits-all” treatment for the condition, options may include but are not limited to replacing missing teeth, moving teeth orthodontically, or adjusting the bite. Physical therapy or massage techniques may be beneficial if the muscles surrounding the joint are sore. Sometimes a referral to a specialist is made if surgical intervention is necessary to address the disorder.

A custom TMD appliance in the form of a splint may be recommended to stabilize TMD. If this is the case, we will work closely with a specialist to ensure you receive the best possible care.

Bruxism Effects - Garden Ridge Center For Dentistry

Bruxism Effects

Many patients suffer from “Bruxism” or grinding habits, often at night while sleeping. If you clench or grind your teeth, the enamel may start to wear, causing changes in the bite or sensitivity. Clenching and grinding your teeth may also cause cracks or fractures in the tooth- causing pain and indicating more invasive dental treatment like a full coverage crown. For clenching and grinding habits, an occlusal guard or night guard is often beneficial, acting to protect your teeth from damaging forces. We are able to fabricate custom night guards to best suit your specific situation.
